As part of our topic, we have been thinking of ways in which we could take better care of our planet. We split into four groups. One chose Recyling, one chose Switch to 30˚, one chose Stop cutting down trees and one chose Reducing packaging. Our brief was:

To create an iMovie video of an advert aimed at the present day generation to save the earth.
It should:
• Be no longer than 2 minutes.
• Have titles and/or credits.
• Contain at least one transition.
• Contain at least one effect.
• Have at least one sound effect or audio part.
• Contain a Long shot, a Medium shot, a Close Up and/or a Point of View shot
Here are the end results. Leave us a comment and tell us what you think about our eco messages.

Our Trip to BBC Scotland’s Learning Space

Today was a very exciting day for us. We were the first ever class to visit the BBC Scotland’s brand new Learning Space! We went there to make movies! Andy, Pat and Laura-Jane said that for today only we were working for the BBC and had to act accordingly. We also had a tour around the brand new BBC building. They had fat boy chairs, cushions and loads of plasma screens to use in their offices. There are five floors like a tenement building going up and up, each with different offices and spaces on each floor. The view from the top floor looking down was scary but incredible!

Our brief was a two minute movie in 4 hours which was all the time we had! First we had a 15 minute tour of the building. At the end of the tour, we had to come up with an idea for our movie. We then had half an hour to plan our shots. We learned about mid shots, long shots, close-ups and point-of-view shots and we tried to include as many different shots in our movie as we could.

Next, we went back up to the fifth floor for lunch. It was really cool! We could see across the Clyde to the SECC.

Then, we went back to the Learning Space, grabbed our equipment and started filming! We were allowed to use almost anywhere in the building for our filming. We made great use of stairways, couches, post boxes (!) and even outside the building. Our brief was 45 minutes for filming and we all just managed this. Of course, we could have spent longer if we had the time!!

Finally, we were on to our editing! It was great looking at the footage we had taken. Some of it was so funny, some of it couldn’t be used and some of it was just perfect! We learned a lot about cropping clips, adding sound, adding titles and loads more.

1.45 was our deadline and every group made it! We had a premiere of each film and we were amazed at how good they each were. Check out our school website here to see our movies or have a look below. The bigger versions are winging their way from the BBC as you read!

Today was interesting, excellent, fun, extra-ordinary, interactive, ultimate, awesome and fantastic! Thanks BBC Scotland!

We have written Street Ranger poems for a competition as part of our Green Travel Plan which we have been working on. We decided to record ourselves reading our poems. What do you think? Check out our school website here to listen to our poems. Keep coming back to check out more as we will keep posting them as we record them. Why not leave us your two stars and a wish for our poems? Maybe we could do the same for some of your work.

Our Fantastic School!

We have now got a new school, we got our new school last year in July. Our school is really big and has a great gym hall. We have better school lunches and a nice dinner hall. We also have water fountains that you can fill up your water bottle with, the water is really cold and clean. It is great!
We have just got a new topic, we don’t know what it is but we do know that it has got something to do with the future. So far we have made a family for the future called the Anderson family that live in the year 2087. This is us working on it.

We have started looking at newspapers to find stories that we find interesting and then we type them out on the computer or write them on paper in our own words. We have already looked at the Madeleine McCaan story and put it on our news board outside our classroom. We have a map of the world that we tie a piece of string to where the story happened. You can see part of our map here.

We have got new computer as well with something called photo booth that you can go into and take photographs of your self because all of our computers have small cameras on them.
A new pupil council has just been voted, there are two secretaries and one pupil council member. It was a secret ballot. The pupil council can give their own or other children’s ideas to the teacher about what we could do to make the school better or more active. This was us voting.
Secret Ballot
There were also people voted for the eco school committee. The people that were voted can give ideas to the teachers about what they think the school could do to help the environment. The ideas that have been given so far are bringing in old mobile phones or ink cartridges to raise money that we could spend on things that could help the environment.
This year we have got a smart board that is an interactive white board that you can touch to control it. We also have a projector that we can use to project movies that we watch onto it so that everybody can see it.
There is an environmental garden that our school has made, each class has planted different plants in their own part our class has the biggest part since we are the oldest.
A football pitch was also built along with the new school, it is made of golden grit. We don’t have good football goals but we are going to get them soon. Each class has a different day on the pitch, our day is on Monday, primary six’s on Tuesday and so on until Friday when primary three are on the pitch.
Our class started monitoring this year, five people monitor on Tuesday and every other day apart from Monday. No same person monitors two days a week unless somebody is off and another person has to fill in for them.
