Today was a very exciting day for us. We were the first ever class to visit the BBC Scotland’s brand new Learning Space! We went there to make movies! Andy, Pat and Laura-Jane said that for today only we were working for the BBC and had to act accordingly. We also had a tour around the brand new BBC building. They had fat boy chairs, cushions and loads of plasma screens to use in their offices. There are five floors like a tenement building going up and up, each with different offices and spaces on each floor. The view from the top floor looking down was scary but incredible!

Our brief was a two minute movie in 4 hours which was all the time we had! First we had a 15 minute tour of the building. At the end of the tour, we had to come up with an idea for our movie. We then had half an hour to plan our shots. We learned about mid shots, long shots, close-ups and point-of-view shots and we tried to include as many different shots in our movie as we could.

Next, we went back up to the fifth floor for lunch. It was really cool! We could see across the Clyde to the SECC.

Then, we went back to the Learning Space, grabbed our equipment and started filming! We were allowed to use almost anywhere in the building for our filming. We made great use of stairways, couches, post boxes (!) and even outside the building. Our brief was 45 minutes for filming and we all just managed this. Of course, we could have spent longer if we had the time!!

Finally, we were on to our editing! It was great looking at the footage we had taken. Some of it was so funny, some of it couldn’t be used and some of it was just perfect! We learned a lot about cropping clips, adding sound, adding titles and loads more.

1.45 was our deadline and every group made it! We had a premiere of each film and we were amazed at how good they each were. Check out our school website here to see our movies or have a look below. The bigger versions are winging their way from the BBC as you read!

Today was interesting, excellent, fun, extra-ordinary, interactive, ultimate, awesome and fantastic! Thanks BBC Scotland!

Dear Children,
I have just had a really enjoyable time listening to all your poems and reading about your day out at BBC.
I must admit to being very jealous about your opportunity to see this new building, but know you feel just as proud as I do hearing that you all so appreciated and enjoyed it so much.
Kindest regards
Mrs Wills

Great films guys, love the ‘Charlie Chaplin’ silent movie. It’s amazing that you managed to do all that in one day! Any chance of working that hard to finish your comics in class?!!!!
