On Friday when we were at gym  we made strange shapes in groups such as yin-yang and heart shapes etc. We were in groups of five, we would lie on the floor and make the shapes or we would even climb on each other to make them. We were shown a picture with strange symbols all over it and were to try and make the shapes.

Y Dance on Tuesday was such fun again. The music was first class. We added loads of new steps onto our dance routine. We only have 2 weeks left which we are so sad about. On the last week we are going to have a wee audience so they can see our dance. Some of us will be quite nervous but I’m sure we’ll still have a good time!!!

Last Friday we had Dance for PE. Miss Evans showed us a black and white picture of all different buildings that were linked or close together. It was probably somewhere like New York. We then had to travel round the room following out different instructions and then Miss Evans would shout a number. If she shouted 3 we would have to get into group’s of 3 and work together to represent a shape from the building using our bodies. It was really funny because, at one point, all the boys were giving each other a piggy back to create one of the shapes.

Y Dance

Today we had our first Y Dance session. Some of us weren’t really looking forward to because we didn’t know what to expect. The instructor’s name is Claire. We were there for 45 minutes, we did a warm up, part of a dance sequence and a cool down. We ALL really enjoyed it. She played great music which made us more excited. At one point we split into three groups, we were in straight lines, she showed us what to do and we copied her three at a time. Some of the moves looked so hard we thought we’d never remember them all but she made it seem really easy. Our teacher thought we did really well, she kept clapping! It was really energetic and woke all of us up, that is until we had to come back to class and do maths!

Last term, for 5 weeks, our active schools co-ordinator, Garry Rice came into work with us on a Friday. We also had Corrina (health worker) and Rhona (dietician). Some of our parents attended the sessions. We really enjoyed them. Some sesssions with Corrina and Rhona were about healthy eating, we even got to have a food tasting session! There was a session on relaxing, some of us were so relaxed we nearly fell asleep!Garry’s sessions weren’t so relaxing, he worked us really hard!! We loved it though. We’ve got some great pictures of the final session. We were using the skipping ropes, it was so so funny! We feel really lucky we had all these people to work with us. Miss Evans loved it too because she got new ideas on how to teach us PE, we’re worried she’ll work us too hard now aswell!

We have decided that we are only going to blog on our PE sessions for this term. We get PE on a Wednesday and Friday. For the next 5 weeks on a Tuesday we are getting a special dance instructor in as well, we are very lucky!Today we were doing dance. We mimed out stories as part of our lesson. We worked in groups of four and had to show our presentation to the class. At the end of the lesson we made a big circle and some individuals went into the middle and did a dance move that the rest of us had to copy… we couldn’t get one of the boys out of the middle!!! This ‘cool down’ was very funny and we enjoyed doing it! We were taking photos during the lesson.  In the first picture our teacher, Miss Evans, is giving us instructions. In the next few pictures the groups are using the time to prepare for their dance presentations to the class. Our dance had to be 32 beats, we were to show that we were scared of something. We had to involve walking, pausing and reaching movements. We have also taken pictures of the actual presentations, everybody did really well.

A fantastic time was had by all and we were extremely proud of all the children. Don’t worry if you missed it, (if you have a little bit of patience while it downloads) you can watch the highlights by clicking here. Enjoy! Remember to let us know what you think by leaving comments. Or tell us about something that your school did. Our photos of the day will follow soon.

We have been studying French with Madame Forbes. She comes every Friday. She asked us to try some speaking exercises to demonstrate what we have learned so far. She was so impressed with our French accents, she asked Mrs McDowall to create a podcast of this activity and we have posted it here. We hope you enjoy listening to it. Please leave us a comment about our first French podcast.

As part of our topic, we have been thinking of ways in which we could take better care of our planet. We split into four groups. One chose Recyling, one chose Switch to 30˚, one chose Stop cutting down trees and one chose Reducing packaging. Our brief was:

To create an iMovie video of an advert aimed at the present day generation to save the earth.
It should:
• Be no longer than 2 minutes.
• Have titles and/or credits.
• Contain at least one transition.
• Contain at least one effect.
• Have at least one sound effect or audio part.
• Contain a Long shot, a Medium shot, a Close Up and/or a Point of View shot
Here are the end results. Leave us a comment and tell us what you think about our eco messages.

Our Trip to BBC Scotland’s Learning Space

Today was a very exciting day for us. We were the first ever class to visit the BBC Scotland’s brand new Learning Space! We went there to make movies! Andy, Pat and Laura-Jane said that for today only we were working for the BBC and had to act accordingly. We also had a tour around the brand new BBC building. They had fat boy chairs, cushions and loads of plasma screens to use in their offices. There are five floors like a tenement building going up and up, each with different offices and spaces on each floor. The view from the top floor looking down was scary but incredible!

Our brief was a two minute movie in 4 hours which was all the time we had! First we had a 15 minute tour of the building. At the end of the tour, we had to come up with an idea for our movie. We then had half an hour to plan our shots. We learned about mid shots, long shots, close-ups and point-of-view shots and we tried to include as many different shots in our movie as we could.

Next, we went back up to the fifth floor for lunch. It was really cool! We could see across the Clyde to the SECC.

Then, we went back to the Learning Space, grabbed our equipment and started filming! We were allowed to use almost anywhere in the building for our filming. We made great use of stairways, couches, post boxes (!) and even outside the building. Our brief was 45 minutes for filming and we all just managed this. Of course, we could have spent longer if we had the time!!

Finally, we were on to our editing! It was great looking at the footage we had taken. Some of it was so funny, some of it couldn’t be used and some of it was just perfect! We learned a lot about cropping clips, adding sound, adding titles and loads more.

1.45 was our deadline and every group made it! We had a premiere of each film and we were amazed at how good they each were. Check out our school website here to see our movies or have a look below. The bigger versions are winging their way from the BBC as you read!

Today was interesting, excellent, fun, extra-ordinary, interactive, ultimate, awesome and fantastic! Thanks BBC Scotland!
